THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS - Ep 9: Remember

AHHHHH, Ok so I just saw this in theaters and I want to give the rundown of my experience (I saw this on June 4, but I’ll post this when the YouTube version is released) I really enjoyed it!! I have a couple qualms with it but overall, I think it’s something I’m going to think about for a long time. But in terms of theater experience? I think I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had just watched it at home. I really like the aesthetics of the theater, which is why my living room is designed to look like one. But DAMN theaters are loud. I’m so glad I managed to swing by a CVS and pick up some earplugs before the movie because I genuinely would not have survived otherwise. I’m also so glad that I brought my sunglasses because that shit was bright!! I was so worried it wasn’t gonna work because they’re polarized, but everything went smoothly in that department and I was able to accommodate myself. The bathrooms in this place were also unbelievably nasty. I went twice because I’m a nervous pee-er and there was like visible grime everywhere. Not fun. Also, the AC was broken. So all of us were sitting together in this hot room, absolutely melting onto those leather seats. There were pretty much exclusively teens in the theater, and when they started playing the theme song and everyone started singing along, I was like “oh god, here we go,” but people did shut up once things got serious. There was one person that was loudly going OH NO which like- same girl but shh lmao. I brought a little stuffed animal with me, but I wish I brought something bigger because we’re all in the dark anyway. Nobody could see me.

The first 30 minutes I was just kind of adjusting to the sensory overload and not really paying attention, which is fine because I had already seen that episode anyway, and then I was able to lock in once things started really going down. Jax immediately abstracting was honestly a little jarring, I knew he was going to this episode, but I didn’t expect them to jump into the immediate aftermath rather than the transformation itself, but I guess they’ve already done that so much already. I understand why they made the choice but also Goose seems to have a habit of making things happen off screen so like, I GET it, especially with abstraction being very heavily suicide coded, but I still felt just a little bit, robbed. Something that people were complaining about in the theater was that they were just talking and crying the whole time, but I LOVED that honestly. I do think there were some things that maybe could’ve been tightened up a little bit, but the voice actors were so good and I was super into how raw and emotional it was. And Jax…JAX. OW MY HEART. I really loved how they handled the abstraction and how Pomni was kind of exploring Jax’s mind. I feel like all of my questions were answered honestly. I didn’t really expect to get that much of a backstory but ahhHHHHH. Seeing Jax first come into the circus and how he acted around Ribbit and Kaufmo was so cute, and then seeing how much he declined, and how destructive he got after being open about his life in the real world really got me. Finally seeing him being open only to sabotage himself so hard that he eventually proved to himself that he did in fact destroy everything he touched. I really liked Ribbit as a character, even though she wasn’t there very long. She felt very real and grounded. And I loved seeing her and Jax interact. In general, I just really liked how realistic they went. Considering they’re all extremely cartoony I loved that the dialogue was very natural. In general, I really loved that whole sequence.

BUT, I felt like Caine showing up was a little out of place. Once we got out of that abstraction sequence I felt like things kind of started going too well. And while seeing what their lives were like out of the circus was cool I feel like the real life actor choices were kind of odd, especially for Kinger, who looked really young. But overall, I like the choices they made, and where they went with it. Everyone hugging it out is going to live rent free in my mind for a while.I’m so glad Ragatha and Pomni finally got to have a good chat and get on the same page. Honestly, a lot of it was very grief heavy. And that felt incredibly real. I don’t know if it was intentional, but I see a lot of potential allegories to becoming disabled. Especially the fact that they now permanently have to accommodate abstracted Jax, and he doesn’t just magically get better now. They were going so hard in the power of friendship direction I was worried it was going to undo what they’ve established in the show so far. But I like that he stayed that way. But also just the coming to terms with your current state and watching everyone else move on felt very disability coded. Especially when that person is literally yourself and seeing what could be and not being able to participate. But there were a lot of really good scenes that I will be thinking about for a long time!! Like when Jax and Ribbit were talking and he was opening up and she put her bow on him the whole theater erupted, that was cool to be a part of. And all of the hugs. Just squishy sobbing hugs I am a big fan of haha. And I also like that Gangle was conflicted about helping Jax because of how awful he was to her (straight from the get-go apparently) and that they didn’t just gloss over that. I feel like there’s a lot of specific moments that will stick with me and even though I wasn’t the biggest fan of the theater, I will say that I like seeing it the day it came out because I honestly don’t trust myself to not spoil things otherwise, so I feel like that aspect improved my experience. But yeah! I really enjoyed it.

Since marinating on it a little bit, I have a couple more things to say. I watched Danny motta's reaction to it, and I agree with his sentiment that seeing everyone's life going so well on the outside felt a little backhanded? Because if everything just kind of worked out anyway, than it feels like their relationships in the circus don't have as much merit if they were just going to figure out all their issues regardless of the struggle that they went through in there. Jax is the only one that really made sense to me because I think she ultimately needed to know that her mom was okay before processing more of that internal stuff going on. Having the circus version of Jax basically being a snapshot of the lowest moment of her life and then slowly spiraling into unreality; it made sense that the real life version would be having a better go of it. I also love goose's design and made some art to go along with it but now I can't unsee the OG design as being bald. Just a bald little lozenge lmao. Also, I think the real life actor choices have grown on me a bit more. It felt a bit off to me at the time because the shot they chose made everyone look very similar? Like everyone looked like the same height, age, and body type, so I had questions about that. But seeing them from different angles on social media, I am more down with it. I really like the music also!!I forgot to mention that last time. Pleeease release the tadc soundtrack on CD I beg you glitch. ANYWAYS, i'm done now. This is way too long lol.

Miami Vice - s4e17: hell hath no fury

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK WAS THAT. I have never been more stressed out by a Miami Vice episode. I mean, they did a good job at making the characters so unlikable and anxiety inducing, but maybe a little too much!! this is the type of episode that makes you just want to scream at the screen the whole time, it is so infuriating. Everyone is so awful to an almost comical degree. The rapist character was unbelievably creepy and I hated how all of these news networks were on his side and the repeated phrasing of it being “a simple mistake” made me nauseous, man oh my GOD. The news networks cornering this poor woman in her own house trying to get her to accept his “apology”?? is this not what the police is for?? What do you mean they can just do that? And hang out all day and give the rapist a megaphone I just- WHAT. HUH. There were a lot of plot holes with this episode that were overuled by the sheer what the fuck factor. What do you mean he comes to her place of work and they can’t do anything?? what do you mean he can call her obsessively and they can’t do anything? What do you mean she can just call a hitman whose listing is in the newspaper?? What is even going on? This one had me rattled. I don’t even really know if I can form an opinion of if it was actually a good episode or not. I guess I’ve seen worse. It definitely wasn’t a boring episode. The set design was really good, but I could not focus on that. I liked Trudy putting her foot down and standing up for her friend, but they’ve gotta stop making every episode featuring the girls about SA, give them something else c’mon. There were a couple real moments that I appreciated of the gang just going rogue and saying no actually fuck this guy. The emotions were very real and raw. But it was so unbelievably chaotic. I need to de-stress after that one holy shit.

Gameoverse

First of all, I really liked the art style and aesthetic. The geometric shapes and hand drawn style of line work was really appealing to me. It felt very much like a Saturday morning cartoon show. The quality of the animation itself was fantastic, and I really liked the soundtrack, especially during the intro fight scene with the electric guitar. I also liked the transitional scenes and the different stylistic choices they made to make it feel like an actual video game. All that being said, I’m still not 100% sold yet. It felt like they were leaning on the concept itself a little too much. The pacing felt slow because it seems like they were constantly re-explaining that concept over and over again. I didn’t really feel strongly towards any one of the characters. It felt like they wanted to focus on lore, but didn’t have a lot of lore to actually say. I didn’t feel like the emotional beats were really earned. Especially the monologue by gobbles at the end. I don’t really feel like the growth felt real or natural. It felt very rushed to me. I am interested in seeing where it will go from here and will likely tune in for the next episode if it gets greenlit. I just hope they spend more time emotionally developing the characters instead of putting all of their focus into flashy fight scenes.

Miami Vice - s4e16: honor among thieves

we are so baaaack oh my GOD. The majority of season four has been an absolute slog to get through, but this one was masterful. I really enjoy the ones that are more psychological based, especially the ones that involve serial killers. But this one was just so well done, possibly one of my favorite episodes. The ending?? Chills. Miami vice is usually very formulaic, but I did not expect that. There were so many cool settings in this one. From the beachy playgrounds, to the carnival, to the club where Delgado is put on trial. The initial concept of a “doll killer” had me intrigued from the getgo, but the drug lords stepping in to catch him because he was bad for business was so cool. I don’t want to give too much away because there were so many twists. But overall, really great episode, glad I didn’t skip it.

Miami Vice - s4e9:The Rising Sun of Death

The aesthetics of this episode were unmatched. Whoever did the set design really nailed it. I loved all of the water features and traditional Japanese room design. The soundtrack was really good too. Loved the combination of synths, wind instruments and (I think a sitar?) But the dialogue was so corny and lackluster. Mans really got called “baka” unironically. Every two seconds was my honor this, my honor that. This was a good background one purely for the visuals but the plot was ehhh. Something definitely happened with the writing on this one.

The quick and dirty life of Fritz Fargo

I binged this in a day and then went back and reread it immediately because it was so good. I adore the gritty style, the ink work is phenomenal, it’s such a period piece of 90s grunge. Every panel is so lovingly crafted. From the composition, to the ink texturing, to the hand drawn lettering, all of it is just so beautifully done and I wish I could’ve gotten my hands on a physical copy when they were being printed! 10 years in the making and it definitely shows, I have such a soft spot for traditionally inked comics. It reminds me a little of JTHM mixed with that early rubber hose style animation. I really enjoy the character design and how all of their faces are so stretched and cartoony, while also being so detailed and expressive.

Fowlie doesn’t shy away from taboo topics but she handles them incredibly well. Seth is such a well done character and I can’t help but recoil every time he shows up. He’s putrid but well rounded, and the way he manipulates Fritz leaves a pit in my stomach every time. And Fritz! Oh boy, Fritz. Chaotic, broken, and doing coke like it’s candy, Fritz is a car crash that you can’t look away from. He pulls at your heartstrings, but also makes you want to shout at the page. He’s such a wild card and always keeps you on your toes, wondering what horrendous decision he’s going to make next. And while Eddie is there to pick up the pieces, I like that he’s not perfect either. He gets frustrated by Fritz, he doesn’t know how to handle the outbursts, and frequently makes bad, impulsive choices. Despite their rocky start, I like that Nemmie and Eddie stay friends, and that she tries to ground him in reality, even if he doesn’t take her advice.

I really hope Fowlie decides to continue it someday, but also I totally understand if not. It’s such a gut wrenching piece that I imagine working on it for so long had quite the emotional tax. But regardless, I highly recommend giving it a read.

the amazing digital circus- ep8:hjsakldfhl

I’m gonna start off with my initial prediction before I jump into this. “My prediction for TADC tomorrow is that Caine is going to abstract and the rest of the gang is going to have to deal with reality literally falling apart until it takes them all with it, we'll see if I'm right or very very wrong…” I MEAN?? I WAS PRETTY DAMN CLOSE LMAO. I thought it was going to be abstraction, not straight up deletion. But I was right about the reality falling apart thing. Seems like I’m not gonna know about that last little piece until the finale though. But holy shit!! Holy shit… I loooved Caine’s freakout. I loved the glitchy voice they gave him. Even though he didn’t actually abstract, and I’m not sure if that was ever really possible, the way his body got all contorted and all of those arms jutting out was craaazy. The soundtrack for this one was incredible. And all of the horror scenes were so good. Being able to create these horrific sequences in such a cartoon style is a big challenge, but goose is a total master at her craft. Also the return of gummygoo!! But at what cost… this episode felt like it went by so fast. My initial thought for the last episode was that the gang was going to abstract or “die” one by one, and that was their only true way to escape the circus, but now I’m not so sure. Abstraction is definitely the key to something, but I don’t know what. And this is something I didn’t even think about until I read the comments, but now that Caine isn’t there to keep the abstractions in the basement, what happens now?? are they just going to be wandering around trying to kill everybody? And since he can no longer add his “modifiers”, will they remember their names now? The way goose describes the show as “accepting a simple life” makes me think they aren’t going to do the full scorched earth horror method I initially thought, and maybe they’re just going to try to consolidate what they have and live out the rest of their “lives” in the remains of the circus, but at least it’s on their own terms. I don’t know! I think it could go either way at this point. But especially with Pomni’s speech about giving up escaping and learning to live their lives and being grateful for what they do have, Zooble’s monologue about not wanting to give up her dreams before making her mark, gangle saying she DID make a mark on her?? (Ow!) that makes me feel like the ending could be more mundane, but I also think it’s possible that they all die horrifically, and then the last episode ends the same as the first where it just zooms out on a computer. Ahhhh I’m so excited for the finale! We shall see what happens…

Miami Vice - s4e7: missing hours

Wtf was thatttt! I’ve never been more confused by a Miami Vice episode. I’ve heard people call this the worst episode, and I can’t say I agree with that, but I understand why. It was definitely entertaining, and it had some fun visuals, but I had no idea what was going on the whole time. I did not expect those late 80s special effects to be so on the nose. It felt like a parody of itself. (What was up with the peanut butter visuals ??) Crockett immediately going “nope absolutely not” at the sign of anything supernatural and Tubbs being weirdly into was a super fun dynamic. And the thing on the back of Trudy‘s neck was so gross, I don’t even know what they were trying to make that look like. After two really serious episodes back to back, this one definitely felt like filler and an experiment that didn’t land well. I think the ending was just a “oh, it was all a dream, but maybe it wasn’t” ending. But who knows, maybe there are aliens in the Miami Vice universe. That would be hilarious. I would only recommend this one if you have time to kill and think old special effects are hilarious. I wouldn’t say it’s a good episode, but I did have a good time. Now excuse me while I go have “I feel good” stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

Miami Vice - s4e6: God’s work

aaaaAHHHHH tears. So many tears man. I did not expect them to do a whole gay themed episode that was simultaneously really progressive but also an absolute gut punch. The homophobic family was so brutal and having the plot centered around an aids hospice was a double whammie. Absolutely devastating. The shots in this were actually quite good, felt more like season two in terms of colors. It was a bit slow and confusing at first, but the buildup was insane.I really like this one, but you definitely need to be emotionally prepared to watch it.

Miami Vice - s4e5: child's play

TUBBS LOVE CONFESSION CONFIRMED NOT CLICKBAIT?? IN MY 80s COP DRAMA??? I haven’t really enjoyed any of season four up to this point but this episode is really good. I think I mostly like the ones with a lot of emotional turmoil, especially with Crockett. The summary had me rolling my eyes because I was like “ are they really going to pin this on the child somehow?” But no, the twist was actually really interesting. Something else I’ve noticed is how much the lighting has changed recently. The first few seasons had really dynamic lighting and shots and season 4 feels way more soap opera-y. And oh my God, I cannot tell what is happening in the dark! Somebody get more light in here I can’t see a thing! But anyway, this particular episode was really good. Would recommend.

Miami Vice - s3e6: shadow in the dark

I adored seeing Crockett absolutely lose his mind this episode. The vibes were unreal. I really like when they have “crazy” and unhinged characters to throw a wrench into things instead of the big shot drug dealers. Having a guy breaking into houses just to eat raw meat from the refrigerators is a lot more entertaining imo. Also tubbs being crockett’s handler and constantly having to calm him down was so fun, I loved their interactions this episode. That scene where they’re yelling at each other outside of a diner and Crockett’s voice breaking when he says he’ll go home if he can’t get the picture from Gilmore is aHHH. BABY GET SOME SLEEP YOU NEED A NAP. LET YO MANS TAKE YOU HOME. 10/10 would recommend.

Miami Vice - s3e5: the good collar

DEVASTATING. Gang violence but with children. I knew it was gonna end that way but also I can’t believe they did that. What the actual fuck. Somebody make Crockett some chicken noodle soup mans is traUMATIZED.

the amazing digital circus- ep7: beach episode

WHAT. is honestly the best descriptor for this one. I honestly did not care very much about Jax but I am invested now. I am more and more starting to think that they're just dead. The fact that the beginning of abstraction looks a lot like NDEs, those weird car crash flashes at the end, all of it feels very suspicious to me. I'm more leaning on them being copies or in some kind of literal digital purgatory and abstraction is either those copies being corrupted or them literally dying. It felt really short despite being one of the longer episodes,it ending so suddenly made me strESSED not gonna lie, i'm so intrigued with how the next episode is gonna start out and if they're going to slowly lead back into it or immediately jump into angst. Also Jax's room?? So many questions about that.I'm sure there's stuff that I missed so I'm waiting to see what one of those billion theory channels comes up with. Definitely excited for the next episode though.

Miami Vice - s3e4: walk alone

I really liked this one. Lots of tension, stakes were high, loved watching Castillo go buck wild shooting down the guards, also loved Tubbs getting all beat up. ( and Crockett being protective and stressed the hell out) I like how Miami vice doesn’t shy away from internal issues, I know there’s still a cop-aganda element to it like all cop shows, but I respect when they do episodes like “no we suck there are SO many bad apples holy shit”

11/26/25

Miami Vice - s3e3: killshot

Not one of my favorites honestly. It had a lot going for it but fell flat. Felt like there were too many loose ends and too many things being introduced to keep track of. Seemed like a hodge podge of episodes stitched together but not in a good way. I know they like their open ended endings but this one felt like there was too much struggle to infer what happened. Somebody gets shot but who? If it was obvious it wasn’t framed well. Intro music was good and aesthetics were good, I wouldn’t consider it a bad episode, emotions and stakes were high, acting was good, just not for me. I’ve never heard of Jai alai so that was interesting to learn about.

Miami Vice - s3e2: stone's war

people rag on season three, but I am enjoying it so far. Solid episode with great music. I don't usually like the war themed episodes but this one was more focused on conspiracy and coverups, which I found interesting.

Bomb ass songs included in the ep:

Mercy -Steve Jones
Lives in the balance- Jackson Browne
Red rain-Peter Gabriel
Andy Taylor -when the rain comes down
Banger after banger. The way they shoot those cars at night with all the reflections and the 80s music going in the background never gets old.
