Book 1: [ Episode 1-9 ] status: ready for print/ funding. The crime and mayhem in Blackpoint is kept in check by a flawed but effective system that employs hitmen to kill criminals who can’t be caught with standard police procedure. Local law enforcement looks the other way when assassins slaughter civilians so long as victims are on “the list.” Katsumi Sicarius, a well-known assassin, kills a random citizen in a fit of rage. Hikori Mortem, a recently graduated high schooler, kills his abusive father in self-defense. Lost and confused, the two meet by chance. Katsumi takes Mortem in to clear his conscience. Mortem has to choose between trusting a stranger or giving himself up to the corrupt police force.
Book 2: [ Episode 10-16 ] status: ongoing. Police Officer Derek Gonzales and secretary Heather Hartley are fed up with the constant downplaying of the infamous “Black Angel” running amuck in Blackpoint. While his reckless actions continue to cost lives, he seemingly faces no consequences. Why is the police chief so eager to sweep things under the rug? And why do the victim’s bodies keep disappearing? Meanwhile, Hikori Mortem struggles to accept the kindness of a stranger who seemingly only wants to spoil him. Grappling with his own inner demons, he pines for connection with the only person who’s ever treated him well. But the man behind the mask isn’t who he expects.
Caption: blackpoint 1984. We see a birds-eye view of a convenience store, nestled among other buildings. A street light shows a man walking inside. A sleepy cashier wakes up and is shocked to see him. Two teenagers lurk in the background, one of them is stuffing a bottle of alcohol into his jacket. Teen 1: Dude, is that who I think it is? The two of them stare quietly until the man turns around, revealing a mask with red eyes and a shark tooth grin. Both of them jump back in recognition. Teen 2 [ Zach ]: Holy hell, it is him. The two teens grin at each other. Zach : Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Teen 1: Is it fuckery? Zach : It’s fuckery. The two teens start heckling the man in the mask. Zach: hey sicko! Teen 1: what’s the black angel doing out here? The man stays silent and points at the wall of cigarettes. The cashier grabs a box of cigarettes and silently motions for them to stop. Zach: nothing to say, huh? geez, I thought a reaper would be more interesting. Teen 1: man, what a disappointment! Zach: he’s just a pansy in a mask! Teen 1: a lowlife! Zach: a total fraud! The man tilts his head down. The two teens laugh behind him. Zach: what’s wrong, sicko? Teen 1: say something you fuck. Zach: no wonder the city is such a shit stain. You’re totally useless! The man turns around and glares at them, the teens continue laughing. Zach: Ooh look, that got his attention! Teen 1: c’mere, boy! I’ve got a treat for you! Mysterious Man [ Kat ]: shut up. Teen 1 continues laughing, Zach stares blankly as Kat lunges towards him. We hear a bang. It goes quiet. Teen 1 looks over at Zach who is now on the floor in a puddle of his own blood, leaning against a stack of wine crates. They call out to him, but he does not answer. He is no longer breathing. Teen 1: holy shit… The teen turns around to see Kat with one hand covering his face and the other with a smoking gun. Teen 1: p-please, we were just messing around. We didn’t mean anything- Kat looms over the terrified teen and now deceased Zach. The cashier hides behind the counter. Teen 1: [ this can’t be happening. I don’t wanna die. especially not over something this stupid. What do I do? Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. ] The teen looks down and scrunches their eyes shut. Kat holds out his hand. The teen takes it only to be yanked up with a gun shoved in their face. Teen 1: [ I’m gonna die. I’m actually gonna die. All because I’m a fucking asshole. Because of one stupid mistake. ] We see a panel where the teen imagines themselves falling into Kat’s open mouth. Kat slams them down onto the floor, puts a finger to his lips and mimes a shhh motion. He turns around and walks out of the store. Teen 1: [ he’s…leaving? ] The teen gets back up, in tears now but also confused. The cashier gets out from behind the register. Both of them look up at a security camera, the reflection of the lens showing Zach’s corpse. Kat: shit. Kat walks across the street, leaving the convenience store behind. Kat: useless fuck up… End scene.
